About Us

What is the Brass Goat?

The Brass Goat is a brass catcher made for AR-platform rifles. It snaps right onto the magwell of your lower receiver; no tools, no screws, no hassle.

As you shoot, it catches your spent brass so you don't have to chase it across the range. It comes as a 2-piece unit; a deflector and a hopper. You can use both pieces together or just the deflector by itself.

Who makes the Brass Goat?

Magwell Mounts is the original designer, patent holder, and manufacturer of the Brass Goat. We proudly manufacture and assemble all of our products in the USA.

AR-15 Compatibility

What is the BG-15?

The BG15 is the Brass Goat version made for AR-15 platform rifles, designed to deflect and catch your fired brass.

Is my AR-15 compatible?

The BG15 works with standard mil-spec AR-15 lower receivers with right-hand ejection. If your AR-15 was built by a major manufacturer and you haven't modified the lower, it will most likely fit. Use the Compatibility Checker on our website to confirm or contact us and we'll help you out.

What does "mil-spec lower" mean?

A mil-spec lower receiver is the most common type used on AR-15 rifles. Most factory-built AR-15s from well-known brands use a mil-spec dimension lower receiver. If you're not sure, the Compatibility Checker on our site can help, or just reach out to us directly.

Does it work with left-hand ejection rifles?

No, the Brass Goat is designed for right-hand ejection only. We do not currently offer a left-handed version.

Will it work with my specific brand of AR-15?

The BG15 fits most mil-spec AR-15 lowers, including rifles from brands like Anderson, Ruger, Daniel Defense, POF, Windham Armory, Black Rain Ordnance, Savage Arms, and many others. It is NOT compatible with rifles that have a non-mil-spec or flared magwell (such as the KE Arms KP-15 or Silencer Co lowers), or with side-charging uppers. If you're not sure about your specific rifle, use the Compatibility Checker on our website or send us a message at admin@magwellmounts.com.

Does it work with AR pistols?

Yes, as long as your AR pistol has a mil-spec lower receiver with right-hand ejection.

Does it fit the S&W M&P 15-22?

The standard BG15 does NOT fit the M&P 15-22 because it has a different magwell size. We make a dedicated version specifically for the M&P 15-22; check out the BG15-22 on our website.

AR-10 Compatibility

What is the BG10?

The BG10 is the Brass Goat version made for AR-10 platform rifles. It works the same way as the BG15 but is sized for the larger AR-10 magwell. It comes with five removable shims to fit a wide range of AR-10 lowers from different brands.

Is my AR-10 Compatible?

The BG10 works with a variety of AR10 firearm manufacturers and models. The BG10 includes (5) removable and reusable shims to assure maximum flexibility.

What are the shims for?

AR-10 rifles come from many different manufacturers, and magwell sizes can vary slightly between brands. The five included shims let you dial in a snug, secure fit no matter which brand of AR-10 lower you have. A shim selection guide is available on our website.

Is Brass Goat compatible with the Ruger SFAR?

We make a dedicated version for the Ruger SFAR — check out the BG10-RSF on our website.

General Compatability

Does it interfere with optics, red dots, or magnifiers?

Because the Brass Goat attaches to the magwell on the lower receiver, it won't interfere with any optics, red dots, EOTech sights, magnifiers, or other accessories mounted on your upper.

Some oversized scope mounting hardware may interfere, but modifications can be made in many cases. Contact us for more information on modifications.

Will it work with drum magazines?

No, Brass Goat is not compatible with drum magazines.

Will it work with 10-round magazines?

Yes, it is compatible with 10-round magazines. Keep in mind the standard hopper is sized similarly to a 30-round magazine. If you want a more compact option for use with shorter magazines, check out the mini-hopper (BG15-M).

Will it work with a side charging handle?

Most likely not. If you have a side-charging upper, send us a photo at admin@brassgoat.com and we can take a closer look at your specific setup.

Do you make one for AK-47s, bolt-action rifles, or other platforms?

The Brass Goat is only made for AR-15 and AR-10 platform rifles. We don't make versions for AK-47s, Ruger Mini-14s, Hi-Point carbines, bolt-action rifles, or other platforms at this time.

Will it interfere with the magazine release button?

No, Brass Goat will not interfere with the mag release button.

How do I know if my Brass Goat is installed correctly?

When properly attached the right side mounting tab will engage by the trigger guard pocket, below the magazine release button.

Calibers & Capacity

What calibers does Brass Goat support?

Brass Goat is compatible with any cartridge for AR-15 and AR-10 platform firearms.

Examples include:

  • BG15 standard hopper: .223 / 5.56 - holds about 30 rounds
  • BG15-M mini-hopper: .223 / 5.56 and 300 BLK — holds about 8 rounds; 7.62x39 — holds about 3 rounds
  • BG10: Designed for .308 / 7.62x51 and similar AR-10 calibers

Does it work with 9mm AR-15s?

The BG15 attaches to the magwell of the lower receiver, not the caliber-specific upper. However, 9mm AR lowers often have different magwell dimensions (especially those using Glock-style magazines), so fit is not guaranteed. Use the Compatibility Checker or contact us to confirm.

Will the standard hopper stick out farther than my magazine?

The standard hopper is about the same size as a 30-round magazine. If that feels too big for your setup, the mini-hopper (BG15-M) is a smaller, lower-profile option that many shooters prefer for bench shooting.

Installation & Use

How does it attach to my rifle?

The deflector simply snaps onto the magwell of your mil-spec AR-15 or AR-10 lower receiver. No tools, no screws, no clamps. It holds firmly in place on its own. Check out our YouTube channel for video demos showing exactly how it works.

Do I need any tools to install it?

No, the deflector snaps right onto the magwell and stays put on its own; no screws, no clamps, no tools needed.

Will it jam my rifle?

No. The Brass Goat is engineered so it won't interfere with your rifle's operation when used correctly.

Can I use just the deflector without the hopper?

Yes. The deflector works on its own if you just want to redirect brass without catching it.

Are the hoppers interchangeable between the BG15 and BG15-M?

Yes, the standard hopper (BG15-SH) and mini-hopper (BG15-MH) are both compatible with the same BG15 deflector. You can swap them out as needed.

Returns & Warranty

Can I return or exchange an item?

You can absolutely return your item to us for a full refund, within 30 days after receiving it, as long as it’s undamaged, unused and contained in its original packaging. Contact us for more information on processing your return.

My order has arrived but it’s not as I expected. What can I do?

In the rare event that your order arrives damaged or faulty, please take photos of the product in question and email our customer service team via admin@magwellmounts.com with the details. We’ll respond within 48 hours. If you just don’t like the product for any reason, we’ll gladly accept it back as a return, providing it’s in “as new” condition, in its original packaging with all labels attached.

How long does it take to return an item?

This depends on the carrier or shipping method that you choose when returning your item. Once we receive your return, we’ll notify you by email. We aim to process refunds within three days after receiving the item into our warehouse, but it can take several days for your bank or credit card provider to process the refund into your account, or onto your card.

Is there a warranty?

Yes. The Brass Goat comes with a manufacturer's warranty. View full warranty details.

Cleaning & Maintenance

How do I clean it?

The Brass Goat is made from tough ABS resin, so cleanup is easy. Pop it off, disassemble the two pieces, and wipe it down. Warm water and mild soap work fine if needed. Always follow safe firearm-handling rules before removing it from your gun.

Will it scratch my lower receiver's finish?

In testing, we haven't seen any finish damage. To be safe, we recommend applying a small amount of Rem Oil to the magwell before snapping the Brass Goat on and off. This protects the finish and makes attaching and removing it even easier.

Do you offer a dealer program?

Yes, we do offer a dealer program and are always looking to add new dealers to our network within the U.S. and abroad. Apply to become a dealer.
